Area Information Payson is a small community nestled among the Pondersoa Pines in the center of Arizona, only 75 minutes from Phoenix. Payson's elevation is 5000 feet. Residents enjoy the four seasons. The Town of Payson has a population of approximately 15,000. The population expands in the summer months to about 50,000 which includes the areas north to Pine and Strawberry, south to Rye and Tonto Basin, and east to Christopher Creek, Kohl's Ranch, and Forest Lakes. The district has 3 Elementary Schools, 1 Junior High, and 2 High Schools, as well as private school choices. Pine has a K-8 Elementary School and Tonto Basin has a K-8 Elementary School. Gila County Community College serves the Payson and surrounding areas with on site classes as well as by satelite TV classes broadcast from Northern Arizona University. Community Activities We have something for everyone in Payson. The Mazatzal Casino is opening a new hotel the end of 2006 with conference facilities. The Tonto National Forest has fishing, hunting, hiking trails, and scenic lookouts for all outdoorsmen. The Tonto Natural Bridge is something you won't want to miss while in Payson. Children and adults will find this natural wonder a spectacular site. There are many beautiful destinations in and around Payson.
